Meet Ollie & Jackie

Ollie is a certified Therapy Dog working alongside his handler, Jackie Farrugia. Trained and certified through Companion Dog Training.

Ollie is a 3 year-old Golden Retriever with a calm, gentle temperament and a natural love of people. His steady presence and affectionate nature make him especially well-suited to supporting primary school students.

Jackie is a compassionate community support professional with experience across the NDIS, education, and bereavement services - passionate about using animal-assisted wellbeing for children, including those with additional needs.

Together, Jackie and Ollie deliver structured, guided wellbeing sessions designed specifically for primary school settings. Ollie is always supervised while on duty - ensuring a safe, supportive environment for students, aged care residents, NDIS participants and private clients.

The story behind Healing Hearts

The story behind Healing Hearts

Healing Hearts Therapy Dogs was created by two local women — Jackie and Kim — who live, work, and raise their families in Mitchell Shire. This is our home. These are our schools, our neighbours, and our children’s friends.

Supporting this community is not just our work — it is

our purpose.

Together, we run a certified canine-assisted wellbeing service that supports children, families and community organisations across the region. Our belief is simple: every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported, and sometimes the gentlest support comes on four paws.

Our commitment extends far beyond our programs. We volunteer weekly at the local Primary School Breakfast Club, and we remain actively involved in school life through the School Council. Jackie brings her background in bereavement counselling through Red Nose, and she

and Ollie volunteer one day each week at a local primary school, because we believe deeply in supporting the wellbeing of local children.

The impact of this work has been profound — a steady, calming presence that students, staff and families have come to rely on. These moments of connection are why we do what we do.

Because when a child feels safe enough to breathe, to smile, to try again — that moment matters. Because our community deserves support that is gentle, consistent, and grounded in genuine care. Because we believe in building connection, confidence, and belonging — one

child, one moment, one wagging tail at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you offer Therapy Dog Training?

A: No, we do not train Therapy Dogs. Our organisation has a trained therapy Dogs that is accompanied by our staff/handlers who conduct the Therapy sessions.

Q: Can I use my NDIS funding?

A: Short answer is No, but check with your Support Coordinator/Plan Manager to find out if it is covered under your approved plan and budget category section

Q: Why is your therapy dog wearing a muzzle?

A: It is NOT a Muzzle, it is a Halti. A Halti works similar to a harness. It gives our therapy dogs much better head control, helps maintain a calm behaviour, helps support safe and positive interactions between participants and the therapy dog and helps our participants cuddle and pat our dogs with ease. A Halti provides our dogs to still be able to pant, drink water, lick, sniff and interact normally with people

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Depending on the organisation requesting the visit, location and duration/frequency of the visit. To get accurate pricing please email our friendly Admin team who is more than happy to assist you further with your enquiry.
